See the video Stitching a Garment: 2/8

The pattern used in this video has been made in the video “Stitching a Garment part 2: How to Create a Pattern”.

Back

We will start with placing the back of the pillow cover on the fabric.

Spread the cloth for the back on the table, see to it that there are no frills in the cloth.

Now place the back pattern of the pillow cover .

The arrow on the pattern signifies the length side of the pattern.

Cloth has two types of edges:

The selvage = finished edge.

The selvage which is the finished edge and

The cut side which is the fraying side of the fabric.

The cut side = fraying side of the fabric

Always align the length side of the pattern which the the selvage of the fabric and the width with the cut side.

Make sure that the corner of the pattern is placed exactly on the corner of the fabric.

Front

In this video we have used fabrics of different colours for the front and the back for better clarity.

Let’s place the front pattern on the fabric.

Repeat the same process with the front pattern of the pillow cover.

Again, check for the length and align it with the selvage of the fabric, the width with the cut edge and overlap the corners.

You have now learned to place a pattern over the fabric.
