In this video you will learn how to stitch the hem of a Kurti.

To learn how to stitch the side seams, watch the previous video.

Before stitching the hem, you need to make sure that their edges are uniform.

Hold the ends of both hems layered together, as shown and cut the raw edges near the corner so they are uniform.

Now, hold the raw edge along the corner and make a double fold with the hem allowance, as shown.

Secure the fold by attaching a series of evenly spaced pins and extend it all the way to the other end of the hemline.

Once all the pins are in place, set one end of the hem under the needle and start making a series stitches along the width of the fold.

When you reach the corner, with the needle inserted, lift the presser foot and pivot the fabric by 90 degrees before proceeding to sew along the length of the hem.

Remove the pins one by one as they approach the needle.

When you reach the end of a hemline, turn the fabric by 90 degrees, as shown, and stitch along the width, off the bottom edge of the hem.

Cut the thread and repeat the process to stitch a hem on the other side.

Follow the same process on the other side.

To add a good finish to the hem and the edges of the slits, we shall make a second stitch parallel to the first, as close to the edge as possible.

When you reach the end, lift the presser foot and pivot the garment by 90 degrees to start stitching along the edge of the slit.

At the top of the slit, pivot onto the second edge along the slit and stitch down to the second hem.

Continue stitching till you reach the point where you started.

Verify the stitches of the hem.

Turn out the right side of the garment.

You have now learnt how to make a Kurti!.
