In this video, you will learn to administer first aid for a chest wound.
A chest wound should always be considered serious.
- Call the emergency services immediately.
- Place the casualty in a comfortable position.
They can be encouraged to adopt a half-sitting position, if this aids breathing.
- If it is an open wound, apply a dressing using sterile gauze pads taped on 3 sides only and leaving the fourth open.
If gauze pads are not available, use clean cloth.
If there is a foreign object in the wound, do not try to remove it.
If the wound is bleeding profusely, apply pressure on the dressing to stem the flow.
Cover the casualty.
