If you have followed How to Make a Corner Halving Joint part 1, you are now ready to cut out the workpieces.

Step 1 - Cutting.

Fix the first piece on the vise horizontally with the waste wood portion facing up.

Use a Crosscut saw to saw down the line marking the width, all the way to the halfway point.

Remember to leave a little waste wood for finishing.

Turn the piece with the endgrain facing up and saw down the line splitting the thickness till the waste wood is loose.

Repeat the steps to remove the waste wood from the second piece.

Fix the first piece on the Vice and proceed to chisel away the remaining layers of the waste wood using a bevel edge chisel and a mallet.

You can also use a paring action of the chisel for removing finer shavings.

Do the same for the second piece of wood, removing the waste wood till the pieces sit flush in each other’s grooves.

Once both the pieces trimmed and fit together flush with the sides, you can proceed to glue them together.

Step 2 - Assembly and Glue Up.

Fix the first piece on the vice and start applying a uniform layer of adhesive on the two sides of the cut.

Now pick up the second piece and apply adhesive on the two sides of the cut.

Fix the second piece onto the first one and hold them together.

Sandwich the glued section between two pieces of scrap wood and fit and tighten the jaws of a clamp to hold the whole thing together.

Wipe out any excess adhesive that is squeezed out with a damp cloth.

Use a Try Square to check if the joint has been fixed at a right angle and make adjustments with a mallet if needed.

Leave the joint aside till the adhesive has dried.

Step 3 - Finishing.

Once the glue has dried, fix the joint on the Vice and plane the sides until it has a smooth finish and a seamless fit.

Use a bench plane or a block plane to achieve a flush finish on all edges.

You have now learnt to make a Corner Halving Joint.
