Upcycling: Making a shoe rack from wooden pallets
In this video, you will learn how to make a shoe rack from recycled wooden pallets.
You will need:
3 pallets, 2 wood strips measuring 30mm x 30mm x 200cm (1.2" x 1.2" x 6.5ft), a measuring tape, a try square, a pencil, a handsaw, a sander, some medium-grit and fine-grit sandpaper, some screws and an electric screwdriver.
Start by dismantling the pallets. To learn more about this, watch our "how to dismantle a pallet" video.
The first step involves cutting the wood to the correct lengths.
You need to cut: 6 pallet boards measuring 120cm (47.2") in length, 3 measuring 60cm (23.6") , 4 measuring 54cm (21.3") , 9 measuring 50cm (13.7"), and 8 wood strips of a length equivalent to the width of three pallet boards.
Now sand all of the wood
Place 3 of the 120cm pallet boards side by side on the ground
Screw a strip of wood across the boards 7cm (2.8") from one of the ends
Then another at 42cm (16.5")
Place the third one at 77cm (30.3")
And a final one at the very end of the boards
Repeat the previous steps using the 3 remaining 120cm boards.
Screw the 50cm boards onto the wood strips to form the three lower shelves.
Then fasten the three 60cm boards on the top
Now attach the 54cm boards across the front of each shelf. These serve to conceal the wood strips.
Fasten the last board
Your shoe rack is now finished.
