In this video you will learn how to hit a block shot.

The block shot is used to counter a smash.

It helps you gain an advantage in the rally as you force your opponent to move to the forecourt after the smash and drop or clear.

The three key steps are the preparation, the shot and the recovery.

Step 1 - The preparation.

Use a backhand grip.

Stand midcourt in the ready position with your racket head up and in front of you.

Be alert and follow closely the path of the shuttle once the opponent smashed it.

Step 2 - The shot.

Move the racket toward the shuttle and absorb the power of the smash.

The racket should almost be parallel to the net.

The string tension and the power of the smash will carry the shuttle to the opponent's forecourt or midcourt.

Remember that the block shot is a reflex shot and you do not have time for a full backswing.

Step 3 - The recovery.

After the block shot get into the ready position and be prepared for a drop or a clear.

Practice your block shot until you manage to effectively use your opponent's power and get the shuttle low in the forecourt.

Enjoy your game! .
