In this video, we will learn how to make a wooden ladder.
It will allow you to climb up to all of your wooden structures, like your raised tent
Caution; you will need:
Protective gloves
Closed shoes
Time
several people
To build a ladder you will need:
An auger
An axe
A bow saw
A sledgehammer or a hammer
and a measuring tape
You will also need:
2 x 2m wooden poles
6 x 70cm wooden poles
There are 3 steps involved in making a ladder which we will now describe to you.
STEP 1: The mortises
Put one 2m pole on the ground.
Mark a line on the pole every 40cm with the saw. Ensure that the markings are in line with each other.
With your auger, drill a mortice on each mark
Remember to adapt your auger bit size to the diameter of the pole
Take a look at our video: Make a mortise
Repeat the above steps for the second 2m pole.
STEP 2: Making the tenons
Make a tenon at either end of each of the 6 x 70cm poles.
These poles will be the rungs of your ladder.
To learn how to make a tenon, watch our video 'how to Make a tenon'.
Once all of the tenons are made, you will be ready to put the parts together and make your ladder.
STEP 3: Assembly
Position one of the poles on the ground with the mortice holes facing upwards
With the help of the hammer, drive a tenon into each mortise.
Use your hand so as not to break the tenon
Once all of the tenons have been driven into the first pole, position the second pole over the other ends of the tenons. Get someone to help you hold and position the pole
Gently hit all along the pole to put the tenons into the mortises.
Once all of the tenons are in the mortices, hit the pole harder to make sure that the rungs are firmly driven in.
Saw off the ends of the tenons that stick out
You now know how to make a ladder.
