A side hop is a slight variation on the bunny hop.

The three keysteps are: the pump, the manual and twisting the body Place a piece of tape to mark a line to practice.
As you approach the tape get into the attack position.
Use a pump and a manual get the front wheel off the ground.
As you lift your front wheel, twist the body to the side you want to hop.
Your hips should move outward as well.
Lean forward to lift the rear wheel over.
Practice doing the side hop on both sides.
Once you are confident, you can try doint the side hop on a slightly elevated surface or over a rut on the trail.
