Expanding access to education for the underprivileged

Expanding access to education for the underprivileged

4.5 billion people do not have access to the Internet and lack access to basic education.

To help bridge this global digital divide, Learning Equality is bringing the online learning revolution offline with their innovative solution Kolibri.

Kolibri is an open-source educational toolkit designed for low-resource communities. It is built to run on a lightweight local server, in order to broadcast a library of open educational resources locally.

Thanks to this platform, the Sikana content has been brought to several disconnected places in the world in need of educational resources: refugee settlements in northern Uganda and Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.

The content has been used to learn tailoring and cooking skills, but children from Kakuma have also been excited to discover Origami with it!

From formal classroom settings to casual encounters with technology, Sikana content engages learners across diverse contexts, and has proven to be one of the most popular and impactful content sources across many of our projects.
