RETURNING TO A STANDING POSITION IN THE WATER

In this video, you will learn how to return to a standing position in the water. This will help you overcome a fear of water and be at ease whether you are at the deep end or in a spot where your feet touch the bottom.

You will need a flotation belt.

For your safety, we recommend that you have someone accompany you when you do this exercise.

We will divide this video into three stages: the horizontal position, the turning movement and then the return to a standing position.

First of all, the horizontal position. Get into the pool at a spot where your feet can touch the bottom. Put your face into the water, face-down.

Spread your arms out to the sides to keep yourself stable and raise your legs, allowing the water to support you.

Relax your neck and shoulders and keep your face down so that you are looking at the bottom of the pool.

Now, let's look at the turning movement. Bring your body into a ball by tucking your knees in to your chest.

Push back with your with your hands.

Finally, the return to a standing position. The turning movement brings your body into a vertical position.

Place your feet on the bottom of the pool and raise your head out of the water

To return to a standing position while swimming, remember: move to a horizontal position, then turn using your knees and hand movements and finally, place your feet on the bottom of the pool. Now it's your turn!
