In this video you will learn how to unload and load, also known as unweighting and weighting.

Being light and heavy on the bike allows you to negotiate uneven terrain and corners with ease.

The two key steps are: unloading and loading.

Step 1.

Pick a spot that has a small step or a rock.

As you ride into the step, you need to unload or unweight the front wheel.

Throw your bodyweight behind so that your front wheel is light, allowing you to overcome an obstacle.

If you hit the step or rock without unloading, you will fall over the handlebars or come to a dead stop.

Step 2.

Once your front wheel is up, shift your weight forward to help you get the back wheel over.

Do this by shifting your bodyweight to the front.

Unloading and loading are essential skills.

This subtle control of your bodyweight will improve your efficiency in manouevering the bike over trails.

Check out our videos on the wheelie, the manual, the bunny hop and cornering to learn the importance of shifting your weight.

Enjoy your ride.
