In this video, you will learn an exercise to train players to improve their ability to play full-court offense and defense against different opponents.

The aim is to spend as much time as possible on the court by scoring against an opponent.

To set up the activity, divide the players into four or more equal teams of 3 to 5 players.

Team A starts on offense and team B on defense.

The other two teams line up out of bounds on the sideline.

Team A and team B play full-court as per normal.

After a score, team C runs to pick up the ball and then advance on offense.

The scoring team defends and the team scored against goes to the sideline.

Play continues. Each time a team is scored against, it goes to the sideline and is replaced by the next team waiting.

When a team scores its third basket in a row, both teams go to the sideline and are replaced by the next teams waiting.

For the safety of the players, warn them to store and drink water behind the sideline, well away from the court.

To simplify the exercise, the scoring team retreats to its own end to play defense after a score.

To make it harder, the scoring team applies full-court defensive pressure against the next team.

To succeed, the scoring team needs to organize efficiently and quickly to defend. The attacking team needs to use the advantage on the defense and score quickly.

If you are a teacher, why not download the discussion sheet for this exercise! On it, you will find questions to help children Reflect on their learning, Connect it to what they already know, and Apply it to their lives outside of play !
