In this video, we will learn how to install a smoke detector.
Smoke detectors, now compulsory in all residences, alert you to the outbreak of a fire with a loud ringing sound.
Smoke, and other products of fire rise to the ceiling, and it is there that you want to install your smoke detector, ensuring it is 30cm (11.8 inches) away from the wall.
Don’t install the smoke detector anywhere especially humid like the bathroom, or anywhere that is often exposed to smoke, like the kitchen. This will help to prevent false alarms.
Start by opening the back of your smoke detector and inserting the appropriate batteries.
Take the installation plate and place it on the ceiling, then mark the fixing points with a pencil.
Drill your markings with an appropriate drill bit, and then insert your wall plugs for support.
If you have a plaster ceiling, use expansion wall plugs and specialised screws.
Now you can attach the installation plate.
Once this is done, you can attach your smoke detector. Place the smoke detector under the installation plate, push, and then turn until you hear a click.
You can press on the ‘test’ button to make sure device is working.
And you can also buy gas tests for your smoke detector.
