In this video, we are going to learn how to paint a distressed (patina) effect on the slat of a wooden pallet

We will need: Some medium and fine-grit sandpaper, a flat paintbrush, dark wood wax and some steel wool

Step 1: Begin by sanding your wood with some medium-grit sandpaper (80 on the CAMI designation scale)

Then use a more fine-grit sandpaper for a smoother finish

If the wood is already painted or varnished, this first step will allow you to remove any paint or varnish residues, therefore ensuring that the wood is easier to work with and is smooth to touch.

Step 2: Remove the dust from the wood with the aid of a paintbrush

Step 3: Now apply your paint going in the same direction as the wood grain

Step 4: Leave it to dry for around 2 hours

Step 5: Sand the wood making sure to pay extra attention to the edges, to achieve a really aged and weathered effect.

Step 6: Finish by applying two coat of dark, smoked oak wood wax, or any other wax so as to protect the wood

Your distressed wood effect is now finished!
