In this video, you will learn how to carry out equipotential bonding.

Equipotential bonding makes it possible to connect metal masses to the ground installation. It may be done with copper water pipes or a metal door frame. This makes it possible to divert any current that may accidently travel through them.

Before this electrical intervention, please turn off the power for the network concerned.

For equipotential bonding, you will need a spirit level, a pencil, a wire cutter, a wire stripper, a saw and miter box, a screwdriver, a hammer, two screws and two anchors, a rigid tube, a ground clamp, a ground conductor with a minimum size of 6mm2, and clamp rings.

This operation is carried out in 2 steps, which we will explain.

Equipotential bonding makes it possible to link copper water pipes to the ground connection via the ground main.

To do this connection the ground conductor will be protected by a rigid tube.

Note the site for the tube.

Measure and size the tube and the copper pipe to the main ground terminal.

Cut off any excess tubing.

Mark the site for the two mounting brackets above and below the tube.

Drill the two holes.

Insert the screw anchors. Screw in the mounting brackets.

Put the rigid tube into position. Tighten the brackets.

Put the conductor into the tube.

Cut the ends of the conductor, a few centimeters after the tube ends.

Tip: Leave about ten centimeters on each end to avoid cutting too much off.

Strip the plastic off both ends of the conductor

Attach the ground clamp around the tube.

Connect the conductor to the clamp. Place the stripped wire in the clamp, Tighten.

Connect the conductor to the main ground terminal. Unscrew and place the stripped wires in the terminal. Tighten.

Put the front piece back onto the main ground terminal.

You now know how to do equipotential bonding.
