Gently place the eggs in boiling water using a spoon. To avoid cracking the shell, your eggs should be at room temperature when you put them in.
For a soft-boiled egg, leave it in for 3 to 4 minutes. For a hard-boiled egg, leave it in for 8 to 10 minutes.
Once the egg is cooked to your liking, remove it from the boiling water and immediately place it in cold water.
The yolk of a soft-boiled egg is almost liquid, unlike that of a hard-boiled egg.
